COURSE DESCRIPTION
Hydrocarbon processing industry is categorized as a high risk industry due to the hazards containing either in the material processed or the operations used in its facilities. Because of its vulnerability, a simple event, either manmade or natural one may lead to significant disasters. Flixborough, Bhopal and Piper Alpha disasters are three classic examples of major accident causing serious loss of life and/or property. A deep understanding on safetyrelated aspects of the materials and processes or operations implemented in hydrocarbon facilities is therefore critical to operate this kind of industry in safe manner and preventing it to go wrong. Hazard identificationis ‘the identification of undesired events that lead to materialization of a hazard, the analysis of the mechanisms by which these undesired events could occur and usually estimation of the extent, magnitude and likelihood of any harmful effects’ This short course is intended to give understanding on HSE problems and several methods of Hazard Identification (HAZID).
